Do I Need a Tooth Removed?

Maintaining natural teeth is almost always the preferable option, but there can be situations where it’s best for your future health and quality of life to have them safely removed. These include:

  • The teeth are broken or decayed to the point that they can’t be repaired.
  • Gum disease (periodontal disease) has made the teeth loose by weakening the underlying bone and soft tissue.
  • A dental infection is likely to spread to the jawbone or other teeth.
  • More room is needed to place a comfortable and stable implant denture.

The Tooth Extraction Process

When removing teeth, we use the Ogram Technique, a gentle and advanced method of tooth extraction designed to protect the bone and gum tissue. Unlike traditional extractions that can put unnecessary stress on the jaw, the Ogram Technique uses specialized instruments and controlled movements to remove the tooth with minimal trauma. This means less discomfort, faster healing, and better preservation of the bone, which is especially important if you plan to replace the tooth with a dental implant.

If the tooth is partially stuck in the gums and jaw, Dr. Donoghue will perform a minor surgical procedure where he removes any obstructive tissue to gain access. Once the tooth is out, he’ll place self-dissolving sutures!
